Samsung has been the leader in the Android phone market and in February they announced the release of Samsung Galaxy S9 at the Mobile World Congress and it is expected to hit the shelves on March 16.
But does it have what it takes to beat the iPhone8, iPhone X and Google Pixel 2?
Samsung Galaxy S9 has a beautiful design, great specifications, one of the most interesting cameras out there and these features could make it the phone of the year.
The Galaxy S9 retains the overall look of Galaxy S8 while further reducing the thickness above and below the display and moving the fingerprint to a more suitable placement. Galaxy S9 maintains the same Super AMOLED Infinity Display including the Quad HD+ resolution. The scanner is now placed beneath the camera and there’s facial recognition and iris scanning as well.
The design might not be very different from its previous version but there’s hardly something to complain about it considering that it is one of the slickest phones out there.
Galaxy S9 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor but apart from the new and more powerful processor, other specifications remain the same as Galaxy S8.
The Galaxy S9 has 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage (expandable up to 400GB via microSD). Like the previous version, Galaxy S9 features a 3,000mAh battery that can be charged wirelessly or via the USB port.
The second biggest improvement to the Galaxy S9 over the Galaxy S8 is the audio.
The audio has been tuned by Harmon’s AKG for both the stereo speakers and the included earbuds. The speaker at the bottom remains but now there’s one at the top too. The speakers support Dolby Atmos technology which delivers rich and vibrant sound.
The first biggest improvement to the Galaxy S9 is the camera.
Samsung is putting a lot of its marketing budget towards advertising Galaxy’s S9 most important feature and development; the camera. The camera is the biggest upgrade of Galaxy S9 which also represents one of the best cameras in the Smartphone business. Generally speaking, the specifications of the camera remain the same: 12-megapixel sensor with dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus and optical image stabilization. However, what makes all the difference is that the camera is much better suited to low-light environments which leads to much better shots. It also offers a video mode that freezes fast moving objects similar to some Sony phones.
The slow-motion effect which enables S9 to shoot slow-motion video up to a hefty 960 frames per second and automatically detects high-speed motion has the ability to stretch a fifth of a second of video into six seconds. This feature will likely get a lot of attention.
Samsung has also improved its image processing software. When you tap the shutter icon, it can capture more photos. In conclusion, the Galaxy S9 should easily be the best smartphone camera for low-light photography.
Overall, Samsung’s Galaxy S9 is an incredible phone, with a camera that could take mobile photography to the next level.
While some of the changes appear to be small in some areas, S9 still remains a super-powerful phone and the ultimate Android device. If not the best phone of 2018, S9 will definitely be one of the most desirable and exciting phones of 2018.
