A Prayer for a Broken Friendship
Share
Lord, David wrote for us: It is not an enemy who taunts me — I could bear that. It is you, my companion, my familiar friend (Psalm 55:12–14). You know how a friend's wound feels different. Faithful are the wounds of a friend (Proverbs 27:6) — but this wound is not faithful, or maybe it is, and I cannot tell yet. A friend loves at all times (Proverbs 17:17) — help me love at this time, whether the friendship survives or not. Paul and Barnabas parted ways so sharply that they went to opposite continents (Acts 15:39). You still worked through both. If we are parting, still work through both. If we can mend, teach us how, and give me the humility to speak first. Restore what can be restored (Joel 2:25). Grieve with me over what cannot. And thank you for calling me your friend (John 15:15) when I have not always known how to be one. Amen.
Wear the prayer Jesus Gang — for the truest friend who calls us his.
