A Prayer for Contentment

A Prayer for Contentment

Lord, Paul learned contentment in a prison cell (Philippians 4:11–12) — in plenty and in want, with full belly and empty hands. I am still learning. You sent manna that would not keep overnight (Exodus 16:19–20), to teach a wandering people to want today only what today required. Cure me of the comparison that steals the bread already on my table. Godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6); make me rich in the only currency that lasts. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want (Psalm 23:1) — let me mean every word of it today. Amen.
