A Prayer for Spiritual Dryness

A Prayer for Spiritual Dryness

Lord, I am in a dry and weary land, where there is no water (Psalm 63:1). My prayers feel like echoes. Scripture reads like other people's mail. I know this happens, and I know you do not leave — but knowing does not moisten the ground. You promised, I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground (Isaiah 44:3). Pour, Lord. The woman at the well drew water for years before you told her about the water that would never run out (John 4:14). Tell me again. Do not let me settle for a religion that manages me in place of one that draws me. Even in the wilderness, you fed your people day by day (Exodus 16:4). Give me today's manna. It will be enough for today. Amen.

Wear the prayer Be Still — when the well feels dry, wear the psalm
