A Prayer for the Trafficked and Enslaved

Lord, you saw the affliction of your people in Egypt, you heard their cry, you knew their sufferings (Exodus 3:7). See it again tonight. The children being sold. The women trapped in rooms with no windows. The men in fields who were promised a better wage. You anointed your Son to proclaim liberty to the captives (Luke 4:18; Isaiah 61:1) — proclaim it now. Break the yoke. Shatter the chains. Set the oppressed free (Isaiah 58:6). You bring the prisoners out with singing (Psalm 68:6) — teach them the song before they know they are singing it. Raise up rescuers. Raise up prosecutors. Raise up disruptors. Amos said, They sell the righteous for silver (Amos 2:6) — we still do. Forgive our silence, our complicity, our cheap goods. Come, Deliverer. Come soon. Amen.
