PRAYER FOR OUR MILITARY

Lord of Hosts (1 Samuel 17:45), you know war more intimately than we do — you have seen it from the beginning. Cover those who wear the uniform tonight: the young ones on their first deployment, the older ones on their fifth, the medics and the chaplains, the pilots and the cooks. Give them the centurion's faith and the centurion's discipline (Matthew 8:8–10). Guard their sleep in strange beds. Guard their marriages across time zones. Watch over the ones who wait at home — the spouses reading old messages, the children counting weeks. When they come back changed, meet them in the change. Hasten the day when you turn swords into plowshares (Isaiah 2:4). Until then, walk the perimeter with them tonight. Amen.
