A Prayer for the Artist and Maker

Lord, in the beginning you were the first artist — you spoke, and light was (Genesis 1:3). You filled Bezalel with your Spirit for the work of his hands (Exodus 35:31). Fill me at this canvas, this keyboard, this workshop. You made everything beautiful in its time (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Help me trust the timing of the thing I am making — not to abandon it before it is ready, not to release it before it is finished. The heavens declare your glory (Psalm 19:1); let a corner of what I make declare it too. Guard me from envy of the artist who is ahead of me, and from contempt for the artist behind me (Galatians 5:26). When the work goes silent, do not let me confuse silence with abandonment. Whatever I do, in word or deed, let me do it for your name (Colossians 3:17) — even here, especially here, in the making. Amen.

Wear the prayer Spirit of Faith — the same Spirit who filled Bezalel, at your workbench today.
